This December, employers need to provide the Christmas bonus gift until Friday 19th the latest.

The Christmas bonus gift is calculated based on the salary or daily wage and depends on how long the employee worked between 1st May to 31 December each year.

Those that worked the entire period from May to December are entitled to one salary or 25 daily wages.

If someone worked partially in that period they will receive less Christmas bonus on the following equation: Christmas bonus = ( Actual working days / 19 working days ) * 2(daily wage)

If employers do not provide the Christmas bonus gift, the employees can refer the situation to the Labour Inspection office at 1555 with full name or anonymously.

Due to the death of train employee in a work accident, the STASY union decided to proceed to strike on Saturday 29 November during 10:00 – 14:00 for METRO, ISAP and TRAM.

The previously declared strike from 01:00 to 05:00 is cancelled.

Last month, on 17 October 2025, the edited articles 194 and 202 of the labour law were published to the Government newspaper, which grants them direct effect.

The main concern and change evolved about the ability for the employer to request from an employee to work 13 hours.

• History
  First the law 5023/2023, gave the ability for a worker to work under 2 employers on the same day with total 13 working hours. The new law permits to work these 13 hours under one employer.
• Main changes
  The max overtime hours increase to 4 per day.
  The max overtime hours per year are 150 hours total.
  The consent of employee is a requirement.
  If the employee does not consent, they are protected from firing.
  The employer is required to provide 11 hours of rest and max 48 working hours per week on a 4 month period on average.
  The wage of the overtime is +40%.
  The wage of the overwork is +20%.
• Structure of 13 hours of work
  Regular work shift: 8 hours (full time)
  Overwork: 1 hour
  Overtime: 4 hours
  Total: 13 hours
  The employer is required to provide 11 hours of rest and max 48 working hours per week on a 4 month period on average.
• Example
  Employee with shift from 08:00 – 16:00, continues working until 21:00.
  From 16:00 to 17:00 is overwork (9th hour) +20% on the daily wage
  From 17:00 to 21:00 is overtime (10th to 13th hour) with +40% on the daily wage
  This is legal as long as the hours are declared to Ergani II from the employer and the employee gets 11 hours of rest.

NGO Gefires Irinis is extending the deadline of their photo contest to 23 November 2025 23:59. Aim of the contest is to promote the magic of the city of Athens as a place of meeting different cultures, histories and people.

Anyone can participate on the condition they are over 14 years old and 1 photo is allowed for each person (either in color or black and white), original capture without edits, photoshop or AI.

From 3 November 2025, new sectors will be added to the myErgani card for working hours tracking system. A new strike has been declared by the Supreme Administration of Unions of Public Servants (ΑΔΕΔΥ) and other unions like the Athens Labor Centre (ΕΚΑ) against the latest labour draft of the Government.
