selfm.aid is a non-profit organisation that supports refugees and asylum seekers by recognising and building on their existing skills, knowledge and experience, while creating opportunities to develop new ones. Through practical, community-based initiatives, the organisation promotes self-reliance, empowerment and social inclusion.
Its work focuses on two main projects:
Skills Factory: Offers practical workshops and hands-on activities in areas such as tailoring, cooking, maintenance, media, barbering and laundry. The project values participants’ existing skills and talents, encourages knowledge-sharing and provides opportunities to strengthen their abilities and gain practical experience. Phones Without Borders: Promotes digital inclusion by facilitating access to mobile phones and connectivity, helping refugees and asylum seekers stay in touch with their families, access essential information and services, and maintain connections with the world around them. Through these projects, selfm.aid aims to recognise people’s potential, strengthen their independence and create opportunities for active participation in society and future employment.
